The story behind Darkman: Peyton Westlake is a ingenious scientist and specialist in skin transplantation. He is close to make a unique invention which can help heavily burned people. Julie Hastings is his girlfriend but also advocate. At one day one of her important documents end up in his laboratorium. Gangster Robert G. Durant tries to get a hold on these documents and burns down Peyton's laboratorium. Everyone assumes that Peyton did not survive the attack but he seems to survive. Badly burned and crippled Peyton scraps the last pieces of his laboratorium together and tests his unique invention to himself. Peyton's next goal: revenge. Durant's gang is slaughtered one by one.
